73-Year-Old Woman Dies After Motorcycle Crash in Western Kane County

Kathleen Skimerhorn died Sunday after her motorcycle left the road in Virgil Township. She was participating in the Friends of Mike Thomas charity poker run.

A 73-year-old woman from Bloomingdale, IL died Aug. 21 after her motorcycle crashed in western Kane County, police said.

Kathleen T. Skimerhorn was the driver and the only person on the motorcycle, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened in the area of Beith Road near Freeland Road in unincorporated Virgil Township. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A 1996 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle was traveling east on Beith Road and for an unknown reason, the cycle left the roadway near a curve in the road, according to early investigation findings. The motorcycle continued traveling on the grass shoulder on the east side of Beith Road. Eventually the motorcycle went to the ground.

The driver, Skimerhorn, was transported to Delnor Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. 

Skimerhorn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the Sheriff's Office said.

Skimerhorn was part of a group of about 100 motorcycles participating in the Friends of Mike Thomas charity poker run.

Beith Road was closed for about an hour while the crash was investigated.
