UPDATE: 100 Gallons of Gas Spill Onto Road After 3-Vehicle Crash, Road Reopened

Route 47 between I-90 and Timber Ridge Road is closed around 6 p.m. Saturday and reopened at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.

About 100 gallons of gasoline were spilled onto Route 47 at around 6 p.m. Saturday, when two cars collided with a semi-trailer truck, the Kane County Sheriff's Office reported.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Route 47 south of I-90, near
Huntley, for a report of a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck. The two cars and semi were southbound on Route 47 when one of the cars made a U-turn in the road.

The semi had to swerve to avoid striking the car and wound up going into the ditch on the east side of Route 47, then back onto the road and came to a rest on the west shoulder, Sheriff's Officer Public Information Officer Sgt. Patrick Gengler said.

A gas tank ruptured on the semi and caused about 100 gallons of diesel fuel to leak onto the road and into the ditch.

No one was injured in the crash.

Due to the diesel spill, Route 47 will be closed between I-90 and Big Timber Road until morning due to the clean-up of the spill.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by members of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management at the scene.

Gengler said the Sheriff's Office would release the names of the drivers involved and vehicle descriptions Sunday.
