1 Adult Charged, Another Faces Charges of Hosting Underage Drinking Party at Batavia Home

The following information was supplied by the Batavia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Batavia police have charged one adult, and charges are pending against a second adult, for allegedly hosting an underage drinking party Nov. 1 at a home on South Prairie Street.

Twenty-one juveniles also face charges of underage drinking.

According to a Batavia Police Department press release, officers responded to a report of an underage drinking party taking place in the 200 block of South Prairie Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 2013.

When officers arrived, they saw "numerous youthful subjects" running away from the property. Original estimates from the Batavia police blotter put the number at 50 to 75 youths.

Upon investigation, police found that there was a large underage gathering being held inside the home, which "included numerous subjects in a detached garage and a bonfire in the back yard," the press release said.

A total of 21 individuals were cited and charged with Consumption of Alcohol By A Minor — all of whom were under the age of 18. The Batavia Police Department does not release the names of juveniles charged with crimes.

Vanessa R. Fania, 40, of Batavia was charged with hosting an unlawful residential gathering. Charges are pending in this case for a second, 40-year-old adult.

Court proceeding will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Kane Branch Court.
