Tri-Cities Death Notices: Ruth Linville-Hamper Helped Run Family Medical Practice in Batavia

Remembrances and links to the obituaries of Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles folks who passed away, for the week prior to Aug. 20, 2013.

Malone Funeral Home


  • Frank L. Krupa, 93, of Naperville was a Navy Veteran proudly serving his country during WWII. He worked many years for Cole and Young Jewelers on the south side of Chicago. Frank also was an avid traveler. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with family and friends.
  • Allen R. Harju, 54, of St. Charles, was known for a sinister sense of humor, a gift for Cajun cooking, and an extremely keen business mind. He was a lifelong learner; always reading articles and books on how to be better and more efficient which contributed to his great professional success. Many nights at the Harju household were spent playing board games and having long discussions, Al with a fine scotch in hand.
  • Bernice Josephine “Betty” Hayes, nee Vondracek, 79, of Geneva, is survived by her son John D. Hayes and his wife Patricia Shine Hayes as well as the loves of her life, her two grandchildren, Dr. John Ryan (m. Patricia Marsh) Hayes of Chicago, IL and Jennifer Mary Hayes of Geneva. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Marmion Academy, 1000 Butterfield Road, Aurora, Illinois 60502, or Marian Catholic High School, 700 Ashland Avenue, Chicago Heights, IL 60411 scholarship funds.
  • Beatrice H. (Witt) Meeks of Geneva, became affiliated with G. H. “Doc” Morgan of Morgan’s Inc. in St Charles and in 1974 they became co-owners of Doc Morgan, Inc. selling in 2001. Beatrice was a long time member of the Geneva Lutheran Church.
  • Albert Murray “Bud” Swayne, Jr., 70, of St. Charles, served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years in executive recruiting and human resources serving as vice president for Reynolds Metals and Alberto-Culver among other companies. Bud enjoyed watching a good game of baseball or football — especially the White Sox and Bears — and loved to golf. He was a member of the St. Charles Moose and had been active in the Lions Club of Darien.

  • Alan Richard Wolter, 53, of Geneva worked for the St. Charles Park District, St. Charles Township, Van Acker Sand and Gravel, Blackberry Township and Campton Township. Being an avid outdoorsman, Alan was a member of the NRA, and North American Hunting Club, and enjoyed his many hunting and fishing trips with his many close friends.
  • Virginia E Billhardt, 84, was a Geneva resident for 47 years. A talented artist, she painted watercolors of many area houses, which real estate agents presented to new homeowners. She was a member of the Wayne Art League and the Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago. She loved to travel, sew, and cook; she made wonderful pies her children have been unable to replicate. For many years, Virginia was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church Choir, and a volunteer with the annual Barn Sale.

  • Ruth A. Linville-Hamper, 95, of Batavia, lived in St. Charles until after the eighth grade, when her family moved to Dundee. After graduation from Dundee High School in 1935, she attended West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Park, graduating in 1942. She was united in marriage to Dr. LeRoy Linville in 1942. She and her husband worked together in their family medical practice in Batavia for over 30 years. She later married Richard Hamper, a family friend of over 40 years, in 1994. She was a resident of The Holmstad since 1998. Ruth was a member of the Batavia Women’s Club, Delnor-Community Hospital Women’s Auxillary and Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.
  • Lewis C. Board, 74, was the owner and operator of House Speciality Exterminating Co. in St. Charles for 44 years.  He was a dog lover, greatly enjoyed his music and tinkering in his garage.
  • Mary V. “Ronnie” Eslick, 79, of Elgin, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was full of laughter and had a lively spirit. She was always there for her family and friends whenever they needed her.
