Remember Dick Foland's Life By Celebrating His '59th Birthday' One More Time

The family is asking the community to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the Batavia Food Pantry. Proceeds will help Foland's wife cover his funeral and headstone expenses.

Each year at the old Batavia Bowl, Richard “Dick” Foland would celebrate his "annual 59th birthday party" by inviting folks to listen to live music and bring along nonperishable food items to donate to the Batavia Food Pantry.

It was Dick's way of "paying it forward" and doing something nice for the community, just in time for the holidays.

Foland died Oct. 14, 2013, after being diagnosed just three short months earlier with brain and lung cancer.

Now, his nine children are hosting a benefit on Foland's birthday, Nov. 23, to help their mother cover his funeral and headstone expenses and to continue the tradition of paying it forward.

The family is asking the community to celebrate Foland's "59th birthday" one more time, from 5 p.m. to midnight, Nov. 23, in the Pine Room of Open Range American Grill and Bar, 1 Golfview Road, Sugar Grove.

The cost is $15 per person and includes food, music, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. The family also asks that each person bring one nonperishable food item to donate to the Batavia Food Pantry in Dick's name.

It's OK to come and pay at the door, but if you want to reserve a spot in advance, please call 630-731-9236.
