Jerry Perrone, who ran City Barber Shop in downtown Geneva for more than 75 years, died Sunday, Jan. 19, at Arden Courts of Geneva surrounded by family.
Perrone, 88, of Geneva was born March 5, 1925 in Geneva the son of Patsy and Theresa (Benedetto) Perrone.
He served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. When he came back to Geneva, he joined his father at the City Barber Shop as a co-owner and barber where he was a fixture of the community for three-quarters of a century.
Perrone was active with the auxiliary police. He was a longtime member of the American Legion in Geneva and always enjoyed participating in their activities.
In his free time, he liked to bowl and play poker. He also enjoyed time in his garden and was very proud of his tomato crop each year.
"Jerry was a kind and dedicated husband and father and enjoyed his family. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched," says his obituary with Malone Funeral Home.
He is survived by his children Cindy (Jack Claypoole) Grandin of Perrysburg, OH., Nancy (Jeff) Schaal of Monroe, WI., Penny (John) Foiles of Wheaton, Judy (Todd Weinstein) Mastroni of Buffalo Grove, Jerry (Diane) Perrone of LaCrescent MN., and Cara (Greg Wilcox) Perrone of Northwoods; grandchildren Adrian (Russ) Bredeson, Alex Anne Mastroni, Carly Tee Mastroni, Joseph Perrone, Therese Perrone, Cullen Wilcox; sister Rocadella “Rockie” (Terry) McConnaughay; brother-in-law Glenn McConnaughay; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Teelie (Lencioni) who passed away in 2010, his parents, and his sisters Anne Perrone and Mary McConnaughay.
Services and Burial will be private.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Route 38), Geneva.
