Death Notices: Batavia Mourns Longtime Educator and Coach Jerry Linton

Batavia Death Notices: Remembrances and links to the obituaries from Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles funeral homes, for the week prior to Dec. 10, 2013.

  • Jeanne C. Nagel, 96, longtime resident of Geneva, worked for Cetron Electric for more than 20 years. Jeanne was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and had a love for life. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

  • Samuel J. Difazzio, 90, of Geneva, formerly of West Chicago was an inspector for the Dupage County Building and Zoning Department from 1960 to 1987. For more than 15 years, he volunteered for the West Chicago Fire Department. Beside the love for his family, Sam enjoyed his cottage in Michigan, his gardening and his friends he made at Greenfields of Geneva.
  • Gary G. McFarlane, 71, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, is survived by his partner, Jeffrey Heath, two children, Kimberly (Robert) Skidmore and Matthew S. (Magielyn) McFarlane, Sr., both of St. Charles, four grandchildren, Julia Braham, Matthew S. McFarlane, Jr., Ethan Braham and Magielena P. McFarlane, two brothers, Arnold R. (Davia) of Naples, Florida and Richard (Josefina) of Singer Island, Florida and a sister, Pat Gjertson of Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. 
  • Peter F. Modaff, 71, is survived by his loving wife Janet, his children; Scott (Heidi) of Sugar Grove, Kristi (Kelley) Foulk of Genoa, Trichelle (Tate) Haley of Elburn, Courtney (Tom) Ward of DeKalb, Shelley (Chris) Courty of Carmi, IL, Keith (Kim) Lessert of Dundee. He was blessed to be a loving grandfather of seventeen grandchildren.
  • Margaret “Marge” Fowler, 93, of St. Charles, is survived by her children, James (Martha) Fowler, Linda Fowler, Joyce Latona, Robert (Susan) Fowler, Daniel (Jane) Fowler, 12 grandchildren abd eight great-grandchildren.
  • Helen M. Taff, 91, was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of North Aurora. She is survived by her her daughter, Maureen (Lanny) Frawley of St. Charles, IL; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
  • William A. Schoenborn, 54, of Sugar Grove is survived by his children, Kristina, Bill, Dan, Ryan, Kevin, Kelly and Katie Schoenborn, four grandchildren, a sister, Linda Patten, and a brother, Erik Schoenborn. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary.

  • John “Jack” H. Markuson Jr., 82, of Batavia, was the retired owner/operator of Jack Markuson Electric in Batavia. He was a proud Mason, having belonged to three Masonic lodges throughout his life. He was Past Master of numerous Masonic lodges.
  • Jeanne Claire Connelly, 83, of St. Charles, is survived by her beloved husband, Edwin; her children, Edwin J. (Virginia) Connelly III of Cary, Pam (Frank) Longo of Hoffman Estates, Kathleen (Michael) Stickney of  Madison, WI, Mark (Wanda) Connelly of  St. Charles, Jeanne (Gary) Fennessy of  Geneva,  and Mary (Michael) Massoth of  Geneva; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her brothers, Donald  Swanson of Tucson, AZ, and Gerald (Elaine) Swanson of Naperville.
  • Celine Agnes Boscaccy, 84, of Geneva and formerly Chicago, is survived by her seven children, Michael (Carol) Boscaccy, Martin Boscaccy, Celine (John) Fox, Blaise (Debbie) Boscaccy, Jerry Boscaccy, Mary Rose (James) Krater, Antonia (Larry) Kramer; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 
  • Nathan R. Bucy, 29, of Batavia, IL, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013. He was a graduate of Batavia High School, Class of 2003, and attended the University of Kentucky. He is survived by his parents Ted (Theresa) Bucy and Karen Ruffatto; his best-friend and brother Nicholas, all of Batavia; step-siblings Paul Clayton and Colleen Clayton of Michigan, and Joe Clayton of Florida.
  • Jerrold “Jerry” Linton, 86, of the Greenfields of Geneva and a former longtime resident of Batavia was a high school math and physical education teacher and coach. Jerry taught 15 years in Batavia. Besides coaching varsity football and track he established the Batavia wrestling program. He then transferred to Naperville Central and later Naperville North High School where he taught math and coached freshman football for an additional 17 years. He was a talented craftsman and inherited the family skill as a mason, building his own home and a cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. He was a loving husband and a caring and supportive father and loyal friend.
