Batavia Death Notices: Former Batavia Bowl Owner Dick Foland, Nick Grigorow and Others

Malone Funeral Home


  • June Lencioni, 90, of Geneva, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Geneva and avid Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan. Among her achievements is being named Secretary of the Year by the Kane County Legal Secretaries Organization. She enjoyed an occasional trip to nearby casinos and was an active bowler until the age of 87. For more than 40 years, she and her husband, former The Little Owl Restaurant owner Victor Lencioni, resided on First Street in Geneva.
  • Nick Grigorow Jr., 59, of Geneva worked many years for Siemens in Batavia. He was an avid Bear and Sox fan who loved music, especially '70s rock.

  • Norbert “Norb” Abel, 90, of St. Charles, served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a gunners mate 3rd class in World War II. After the war he made his career as a lithographer, and was a devoted husband and father. 
  • Richard W. Jacobsmeyer Jr., 57, was a loving husband, father, son and friend to many. He was employed as a sales manager with Verizon. He was a civil engineer, a member of St. John Neumann and a volunteer with the Lazarus House.
  • Ann Edith Mariotti, nee Menzoine, 92, of St. Charles was the devoted wife of the late John Mariotti Sr. for more than 67 years, dearest mother, lifelong encourager and advocate of Patricia (Bob) Anderson, Frances (Don) Molinari, John Jr. (Linda), Rano (Sue), Ralph (Mary Lou) Ken (Tracey), Ann Noreen (Kevin) Fidati, and a sweet, loving and enthusiastic grandmother of 25 and great grandmother of 25. John and Ann were founders of Woodland Windows and Doors, Roselle, which is still operated by the Mariotti family. Their priorities in life were faith, family and friendships.
  • Kenneth W. Brockway, 76, was the beloved husband of 53 years of Judith (nee Luessow); devoted father of Steven, Wendy (John) Watson, Todd (Kathleen); and loving grandfather of six.
  • Damian Patrick Kohlfeld, 40, was an adoring son with an enormous heart, a fearless warrior, a passionate genius, and a loving father and brother. He loved to live in the moment and could make an entire room of people laugh and smile with his contagious and bubbly sense of humor.

  • Richard “Dick” Foland, 75, of Benton, KY, formerly of Batavia, proudly served his country in the Army, being honorably discharged in 1964. Dick and his family had a long-standing relationship with Batavia. His family owned and operated Batavia Bowl. He was a longtime member of the American Pool Association and later worked for his sister and brother-in-law as a fishing guide in Canada, where he was known as “Dick the Guide.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, skydiving and riding his motorcycle. After retiring, Dick spent most of his time surrounded by family or riding the open road. Dick was known and loved by many for his positive attitude and infectious smile. He never met a stranger, and if he knew you, you were family.
