Our friends at Waldron Grove Alpaca Farm, 39W856 McDonald Road, Elgin, will celebrate National Alpaca Days with an open Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. School to host winter clothing sale
The PTO at Western Avenue School, 1500 Western Ave., Geneva, will host its annual fall and winter clothing and toy sale Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. The sale will offer a wide variety of gently used items, including shoes, boots, coats, baby equipment and books. The sale will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Mooseheart to host Readers on the Run 5K
Mooseheart Child City and School on Route 31 will host the Readers on the Run 5K at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The event will include a children’s fun run that is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. The registration fee is $35 for adults and $30 for ages 11 to 15 and $15 for children ages 5 to 10. Participants and visitors are encouraged to bring a book for donation. Check-in will be conducted from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties.
Healing Gardens to present dramatization
Healing Gardens, 37W249 Dean St., St. Charles, will present a special program dramatizing the lives St. Teresa of Avila and St. Therese of Lisieux on Saturday, Sept. 28. • Batavia officials are looking at introducing a stormwater utility charge to the fees property owners pay, according to a report in the Kane County Chronicle. While 6th Ward Alderman Lisa Clark and 4th Alderman Susan Stark expressed support for the new fee, Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke noted the city already is facing a possible increase in electric rates, according to the Chronicle’s report.
• Jewel-Osco is removing self-checkout lanes from some of its stores in Chicago and the suburbs, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. The retailer said the move is intended to reconnect its workers with customers. I frequently use the self-checkout lanes, but prefer using the lanes staffed by an employee.
