Stockholm's Finds Festive Solution to Some Grinchy Criminal Damage

A 7-by-6-foot broken window turns into a festive holiday package.

This is a festive little holiday story that shows how attitude and ingenuity trumped a Grinchy bit of criminal damage to property.

According to Geneva police reports, someone broke the 7-foot by 6-foot front window of Stockholm’s, 306 W. State St., at 8:40 p.m. Nov. 26. The cost to repair the damage was unknown at the time of the report, and two employees told police the window suddenly shattered due to what the report described as "unknown reasons."

But whatever the reasons for the damage, the temporary solution was perfect. Owners of the popular downtown restaurant and tavern turned the vandalism into vindication by wrapping the boarded up window in holiday paper, ribbon and bow to resemble a Christmas present.

I noticed the window yesterday and took a quick photo with my iPhone while stopped at the light. The photo (shown here) isn't great, but the ingenuity and good humor of the folks at Stockholm's is a holiday treat.
