Oberweis Hosts Fraud-Prevention Event Oct. 3 in Batavia
Information from the Attorney General’s Office about identify theft and
financial safety, and cost-saving tips by the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will be featured at two free consumer events being sponsored by state Sen. Jim Oberweis, R-Sugar Grove.
A Fraud Prevention Program is scheduled for 10 a.m., Oct. 3, at Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Ave. in Batavia. Representatives from the Attorney General’s Office will provide information about identity theft and common fraud tactics often used to target senior citizens, such as Internet lotteries and mail scams.
The Community Phone Bill Clinic is scheduled for 10 a.m., Oct. 10, at the Sugar Grove Municipal Center, 10 S. Municipal Dr. in Sugar Grove. CUB representatives will be on hand to analyze phone bills one-on-one and show participants how to save money. CUB is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization created by the Illinois General Assembly in 1983 to represent the interests of residential utility customers across the state.
