Community Corner

Green Tomato Grocery Co-op Community Outreach Meeting

The Green Tomato Grocery is a cooperative grocery
store that will focus on providing whole, organic food that is locally
produced.  Members of the community are
invited to become co-owners of the store.
A community outreach meeting will be held Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Avenue in Batavia, Illinois.  This type of
initiative needs the involvement of the community. So if you are someone who
wants access to locally grown, organic, whole food, this cooperative is for
you!  Get involved.  You are needed!

The meeting will explain what a cooperative is and how it operates.  The current progress on the development of the Green Tomato Grocery will be presented and you will have an opportunity to meet the “founding parents”.  The committee structure and ownership opportunities will be explained.

This project was initiated by a group of people in the Fox Valley area who want to improve their access to locally grown, organic, sustainably produced and sustainably delivered food.  The grocery will also provide access to whole, natural, bulk and fair trade foods and produce as well as provide a connection point between local farmers and consumers.  Developers also want the store to provide educational opportunities about healthy food, nutrition, whole foods cooking, localism and responsible consumerism.

If you would like to learn more about the co-op and the Green Tomato Grocery, you may visit us at www.greentomato.coop or email us at info@greentomato.coop.  You can also look us up as Green Tomato Grocery on Facebook. Most importantly come to the meetings and get involved!
