Do you know what is in your food and how it is grown?  What is genetically engineered food and why should you care?

The Batavia Environmental Commission, with the support of the Batavia Park District, is excited to provide an evening of FREE entertainment featuring the screening of “The Future of Food.”   The event also includes eco-friendly exhibitors,  free popcorn and drink and a lively discussion about the topic of the movie afterward.  Attendees will also have a chance to win a box of locally grown, organic produce from the Green Earth Institute.

“The Future of Food” examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge corporations seek to control the world's food system.  The Future of Food also calls attention to the issues surrounding the genetic engineering of food.  Applauded by technology writers, food policy experts and environmental activists, the film has been shown around the world.

A bill to require the labeling of genetically engineered foods has been introduced in the Illinois State legislature and is slated to go up for a vote this spring.  Jessica Fujan from Food & Water Watch will be there to further explain genetically engineered foods, this bill, and what it means to us.
