Update: Batavia Oktoberfest in Full Swing
Here's a recap of Day 1 on the Batavia Riverwalk with photos. We've also got some details on what to expect for Day 2 Saturday.
Another year, another Oktoberfest celebration on the !
The start of the 2011 Fox Valley Oktoberfest Friday night attracted hundreds of people to downtown Batavia. Many of them were sporting their lederhosen (shorts and suspenders) and dirndls (skirts).
The evening was full of fun, food, beer and dancing. The konditorei cafe was like most have never seen before at a festival: featuring chocolate, plum and hazelnut cakes, cherry and apple strudels to name a few for those with a sweet tooth. There was also plenty of beer available for those of drinking age to wash it all down.

Oktoberfest runs through Sunday. Here are the hours and more details:
- Saturday, Sept. 17: Noon to 11 p.m. (Food likely until 10 p.m., Bar opens at 1 p.m., last call at 10:30 p.m.)
- Sunday, Sept. 18: Noon to 8 p.m.
Kiddie Carnival Hours
- Saturday, Sept. 17: Noon to 9 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 18: Noon to 6 p.m.
Special Events—Saturday, Sept. 17
- 2 p.m.: Official Opening Ceremony (with keg tapping and VIP welcome)
- 4 p.m.: The Egerlaender Dancers, a traditional folk dancing group, perform on the dance floor at the event
Special Events—Sunday, Sept. 18
- 11 a.m.: An Oktoberfest church service will be held on the event grounds. The service will feature the Elmhurst Damenchor and Elmhurst Maennerchor
- 2 p.m.: Learn to polka on the dance floor from an instructor with State Street Dance
