Weekend Thunderstorms Possible; Watch the Heat

The thunderstorms and heavy rains we saw Friday are over—but the possibility of scattered storms remains, and the heat is supposed to kick in this weekend.

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for Batavia, Geneva and the Kane County area on Friday, June 21, 2013. The weather played havoc with Swedish Days Kids Day activities in downtown Geneva and other summer events throughout the area.

But the fun should continue in full swing Saturday and Sunday.

Just be aware that there is a Hazardous Weather Outlook that includes the possibility of a few scattered torrential downpours.

For Friday night, storms may produce isolated wind gusts of up to 45 mph and cloud-to-ground lightning. That's for "later this evening (Friday) and overnight," the National Weather Service-Chicago says.

"ANY STORMS THAT DO DEVELOP WOULD BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING MORE HEAVY RAINFALL ... AND WITH THE HEAVY RAINFALL TODAY THIS COULD RESULT IN SOME SOME FLOODING CONCERNS," the NWS says.

After that, an extended period of very warm and humid conditions is expected Saturday through Wednesday, with heat indices in the middle to upper 90s. On Tuesday, heat indices could exceed 100 degrees in some locations.
