Sarah Ginter Upgraded From Critical to Good Condition

Family and medical staff are keeping an eye on the 17-year-old's brain trauma.

The 17-year-old Batavia girl who survived a car crash last week is no longer in critical condition.

The Aurora Beacon-News reports that Sarah Ginter was reported to be in good condition on Tuesday at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. She had been listed in critical condition as late as Sunday evening, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

Ginter family friend Dawn Brohn posted information Tuesday about Sarah's brain trauma on a Facebook page containing her medical updates. Brohn said she was asked by Sarah's mom Della to write up the post.

"She has followed some commands like swallow and opened her eyes but no recognition yet," Brohn said in her post. "Please pray for Sarah's nerve cells (neurons) to find a new path as the ones they had before are broken."

Brohn explained that Ginter's brain swelling needs to come down so as to avoid further damage to surrounding tissues and nerves.

Ginter was in critical condition after May 16 when in unincorporated Blackberry Township. The driver, fellow Batavia High School senior , did not survive the crash. Investigators are working towards finding a cause of the crash.

Ginter can receive cards and notes, but not visitors yet at this time.
