Rottweiler Gets Pepper Sprayed After Charging Police Officer

A Rotweiler and Bull Mastiff escape, and when the Rottweiler charges a police officer in Batavia for a second time, the dog gets a dose of pepper spray.

A Rottweiler dog took a dose of pepper spray after it charged a Batavia police officer early Saturday morning, Batavia police reports said.

Batavia police responded to a complaint about a Rottweiller and Bull Mastiff running loose around 12:44 a.m. May 18 in the 200 block of South Harrison Street, reports said.

The reporting officer located the dogs and exited his squad car, when the Rottweiler charged the officer. The officer then "got back in his squad car," reports said.

When the officer got out of his car again, the Rottweiler charged to within 3 feet, and the officer gave the dog "a quick burst of pepper spray," and the dog turned away.

Reports don't say how the officer captured the dogs, but he was able to return the dogs to the owner in the 300 block of Harrison Street. The owner was issued a dog-at-large violation fine.
