Oktoberfest Day 2 Recap and Pictures

Beer flowed at the opening ceremony and the folk dancers cut a mean rug. See all this and more in our latest photo gallery.

As you can see here, there are lots of great reasons to make it to Oktoberfest this year.

The 9th anniversary celebration is once again on the , and the crowds gathered on Saturday to take in Day 2 festivities.

An opening ceremony featured Committee Chair Willi Gohs doing the annual keg tapping, breaking open a barrel of pure beer (or bier) straight from Germany. A Detective was invited to join part of the ceremonies, so the organizers could honor the department's cooperation with the event.

The Egerlaender Dancers, a traditional folk dancing group, also delighted onlookers later in the afternoon.

And the fun's not over yet! Here's what you need to know for Sunday, the third and final day of Oktoberfest:

Oktoberfest Hours—Sunday, Sept. 18

  • The Oktoberfest grounds and tent will be open from noon to 8 p.m. (Bar likely opens at 1 p.m.).
  • The kiddie carnival will be open from noon to 6 p.m.

Special Events—Sunday, Sept. 18

  • 11 a.m.: An Oktoberfest church service will be held on the event grounds. The service will feature the Elmhurst Damenchor and Elmhurst Maennerchor.
  • 2 p.m.: Learn to polka on the dance floor from an instructor with State Street Dance.
