More Rain, Then Snow, Then Rising Rivers

Rainfall might give way to snowfall Monday, according to the National Weather Service. The Fox River could rise to flood stage in southern Kane County later this week.

Get ready for some more rain, snow and another Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service.

Snow runoff, recent rain and above freezing temperatures mean a stronger water flow and a higher risk of local ice jam flooding. Rivers are forecast to rise above action stage or even flood stage in some areas.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has continued its Flood Advisory until Thursday afternoon for the Fox River at Montgomery. As of 7:45 p.m. Sunday, the stage was at 12.4 feet. The flood stage is 13 feet and the river is expected to rise up to 12.8 feet by early Tuesday morning.

We'll see light morning rainfall possibly turn into light snowfall in the afternoon. If it does turn to white stuff, we could see up to 2 inches, according to the weather service.

Snow is likely to continue to add another inch on the ground through the evening.

Temperatures will be in the mid 30s during the day and in the lower 20s at night.

The next chance of rain or snow is on Thursday.

  • The record daily maximum rainfall was set in Rockford on Sunday. The city had 0.96 inches of rainfall. The former record was 0.82 inches in 2002, according to the National Weather Service.
