Annual Citywide Garage Sale Dates Set

The registration fee that is charged to participate in the sale helps to support Batavia's annual fireworks display.

It is still April, and you may not be thinking about the Fourth of July. But, the Batavia Fireworks Committee is. One way it raises money for its fireworks show is by collecting registration fees from residents who want to participate in the annual citywide garage sale.

The 18th Annual Citywide Garage Sale will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 29 and April 30. Residents who pay the $30 registration fee will have their garage sale location on the official event map and advertising materials. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. April 22.

The registration fee covers all the advertising costs in local newspapers, radio and BATV. More than 5,000 maps with addresses are printed and distributed. As always, all of the registration proceeds go to support Batavia's Fourth of July fireworks show. Additional information and an entry form are available on the Batavia Fireworks Web site, bataviafireworks.org/garage_sale.htm

The City of Batavia is proud to host one of the most celebrated Fourth of July fireworks productions in the western suburbs of Chicago, which city officials call the Sky Concert.

The show has been produced and paid for by local citizens for more than 50 years. Today, the show is provided under the auspices of the Batavia ACCESS Committee. The show is paid with private donations and fundraisers such as the garage sale. The city pays police and fire safety costs. However, no tax dollars are used to pay for the pyrotechnics, officials said. More information about the Batavia Fourth of July Fireworks Fund can be found at bataviafireworks.org/details.htm
