“Businesses who win this award have made an economic contribution to the community through remodeling, improving, or building a new structure,” said Dempsey. “The Chamber recognizes that owners could spend their money elsewhere, but instead are investing their dollars in their properties in Batavia.”

According to a statement written by the Ole Awards committee, the award was “started in 1976 by a group of people who had a love and passion for their community and wanted to promote the city of Batavia.” The Ole Award derives its name from a traditional Swedish name, Ole, to honor the hard working Swedish settlers that were among the first to call Batavia home.

The public is invited to attend Inspire 2014, and honor the current generation of hard-working Batavia business owners.

“Inspire 2014, A Celebration of Those Who Inspire Us!” will take place on Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. The Commons Auditorium at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, is the new location. The awards presentation of the Citizen of the Year and Ole Award winners will follow a social reception and silent auction.
