Goodbye Batavia Phillips 66, Hello Shell Gas Downtown

A downtown Batavia gas station is under new management, and soon it will offer new gas, one of its co-owners said.

The Gas Mart USA Phillips 66 gas station closed its doors on Sept. 27 and will reopen later this week, co-owner Dan Siddiqui told Batavia Patch on Sunday.

Patch readers noticed that the convenience store at the back of the property, 108 N. Batavia Ave., went bare last week. A couple sheets of paper were taped on its doors with the words "Closed" printed in all capital letters.

Siddiqui said the store was closed for cleaning. New shelves and cash registers will be installed, he said.

The station will likely reopen for business in a few days. Siddiqui eventually plans to have the site become a Shell gas station.

The station's new management is Midwest Business Corp. Siddiqui claimed ownership of the store over the summer. He and his business partner own seven different gas stations throughout the region, including Joliet, East Dundee and Indiana.

Shell gas officials will have to approve new gas pumps and other parts of the store. Siddiqui said it will take about one month to convert to the Shell brand after inspection.

Siddiqui is scheduled to meet with Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke today, Oct. 1.

"We will offer donuts, fresh food and new items," Siddiqui said.
