Mayor: New Restaurants Want to Open Downtown

Mayor Jeff Schielke says three restaurants recently applied for liquor licenses.

Three new restaurants applied for liquor licenses in Batavia over the last 10 days, Mayor Jeff Schielke said on April 5.

Schielke mentioned the applications, but not the restaurants by name, on Tuesday night near the end of the Streetscape meeting at the Batavia Park District Civic Center.

All three of the restaurants will be located downtown. Information about two of the restaurants will go before a Batavia City Council committee, and one of them is still in the application process.

Schielke hopes they open soon. He thinks the Streetscape Committee meetings helped bring business to downtown.

“I hope everybody appreciates the communication and synergy that an activity like this generates to our town,” he said. “A lot of people are watching with great interest.”

The mayor's office has not yet responded to a phone call requesting more information on the restaurants.
