A treasured record store of the Tri-Cities will return to Batavia next month.
will move from downtown Geneva to its new location at 180 W. First St. in Batavia on July 1.
The independent record store's last day of business in Geneva is this Saturday, June 30. Then the store plans to be open again for business in Batavia on Monday, July 2.
"We may not be completely organized, and some of the stuff may be out of place or left behind for later pickup, but we WILL be open on Monday," according to a June 23 post on the Kiss the Sky Facebook page.
After a day of unpacking its inventory, the Kiss the Sky staff will host a moving party on July 1 at the Batavia location. The party includes a performance by CattleProd at 4 p.m.
Kiss the Sky returns to Batavia after a six-year stint at 301 W. State St. in Geneva. The shop originally opened on Randall Road in Batavia in 1996.
When Kiss the Sky moved to Geneva's high-profile corner of State and Third, it was hailed as a coup for the city. Now Batavia has bragging rights for the record store that's considered a destination for vinyl aficionados.
The store's downtown Batavia location is just around the corner from the entrance of , 160 S. Water St. The expanded location could lead to more in-store performances as well.
"Although the move is somewhat bittersweet, we're looking forward to venturing out into new territories, while heading back to where it all began, so to speak," said an e-mail press release sent on Friday. "Our stay in Geneva has been wonderful. The city officials have been fantastic, and the residents have been very supportive. Thank you, Geneva, for taking us into your town and making us feel right at home."
