Geneva's Matsuri Restaurant is a Delicious Japanese Dining Experience With Excellent Service to Match

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Overview: Fresh sushi and Japanese specialties have given Matsuri a reputation for great food in Geneva. There is a full menu of sushi rolls and artfully presented sashimi, but the entrees should not be overlooked. The restaurant’s location in the historic downtown shopping district makes it a perfect place to sample delicious food while enjoying an afternoon, or night, out on the town.

Decor: Matsuri is designed with contemporary accents in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Tables and booths are arranged comfortably in the dining room with seating at the sushi bar so diners can watch orders being prepared. Hanging pendant lights provide simple, yet elegant illumination, and simplistic artwork is situated on the walls giving patrons a feeling of flowing uniformity.

Drinks: Japanese beers are sold in small ($4.00) and large ($6.95) sizes. Saki is available hot or cold, also in small ($3.50) or large ($6.50) options. Japanese sodas ($2.50) come in strawberry or watermelon flavors, and are an interesting way to experience the food cultures of Japan.

Appetizers: The Beef Wrapped Asparagus Roll ($5.95) is thinly sliced beef that has been rolled around asparagus, broiled, and paired with teriyaki sauce. Shrimp Shumai ($4.25) is perfect for sharing, and comes with six Japanese style steamed dumplings.

Sushi Rolls: The Rainbow Roll ($11.95) is a good option for those wanting to try a variety of fresh fish around a classic California Roll. The Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll ($5.95), has fresh sushi grade tuna mixed with a spicy sauce and crunchy Panko bread crumbs. Try the Geneva Roll ($8.25) for a house specialty, made only in Geneva.

Entrees: Chicken ($13.50) or Steak ($21.50) Teriyaki comes with a flavorful homemade sauce, and are both broiled to perfection. The vegetable tempura ($11.95) consists of deep fried vegetables in a light and fluffy batter. All dinner entrees come with Miso soup, a green salad with ginger dressing, and steamed rice.

Desserts: Japanese desserts take a different approach to the sweet tooth. Green Tea Ice Cream ($2.50) is an interesting taste from around the world.  For an even more exotic experience try the Mochi Ice Cream ($2.50), made from pounded sticky rice that has been formed around a ball of ice cream; it comes in Mango, Strawberry, or Green Tea flavors.

Service: The staff at Matsuri will always greet you with a smile at the door; they are extremely friendly throughout the whole dining experience.  Drinks are always promptly filled, and orders come to the table quickly.
