2nd Annual Chili Cook Off in Batavia

As if summer isn’t hot enough already, the Batavia Viking Ring Lodge #18 plans to kick up the heat a bit with their 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off.

The event takes place on Saturday, July 14, at the Viking Lodge, 104 N. VanNortwick Avenue in Batavia. Festivities begin at 2:00 p.m. The Vikings are partnering with Batavia United Way to support local non-profit agencies and the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp. Tasting tickets cost $5 each and are available from Batavia Viking members and Batavia United Way.

The Chili Cook Off organizers welcome anyone who would like to try their hand at cooking chili or volunteer to be a tasting judge. Because the Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc. (CASI) sanctions this event, the cook off will use CASI’s competition chili rules. This means cooks will prepare the chili on site and from scratch, with no fillers. The entry fee to cook is $20. Besides the tasting winners, cooks can earn a showmanship award.
