Chop Around The Clock Benefits Children's Charities

Foltos' Tonsorial Parlor celebrates the 23rd year of Chop Around The Clock this weekend by donating all proceeds from haircuts to the Ronald McDonald's Children's Charities.

The 24-hour haircut event starts at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 1, through the night and continues to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2.

"I got to a place in my life where I was pretty successful and I realized I could give back a little bit then," Owner Craig Foltos said on how the all-nighter got started. "I said to myself, maybe I can help somebody else out who doesn't have it so good."

Raised over $10,000 last year and has been know to perform between 300 to 500 haircuts during the 24-hour period.

Foltos said he got the idea from the old TV series The Dick Van Dyke Show when Rob Petrie tried to stay awake all night on the radio. Foltos said he thought it might be fun to stay up all night and cut hair.

"It's almost like Christmas that day," he said. "People really want to help out so it generated a whole lot of energy."

Foltos said people basically want to help and sometimes don't know where they can.

"The people that come here know me really well and trust that this is going for a really good cause," he said. "It's a really lot of fun."

He said the busiest time is between 7 and 9 p.m. and if the weather is nice, he'll do the cutting outside on Wilson Street. Ronald McDonald will make an appearance at 7 p.m. Friday.

While the haircutting continues, there will be hot dogs, tacos, a bake sale, and balloon blowing. Between 8 and 11 p.m. join the World's Longest Conga Line, dancing, music and games.
