Batavia's November Sales Tax Revenue Takes a Dip
While neighbors St. Charles and Geneva report increased sales tax revenue for the month of November 2012, Batavia's drops a bit.
Sales-tax revenue isn't the end-all, be-all to measure the state of the local economy, but it is one indicator. So it's with a wee bit of concern that Batavia saw a little dip in holiday sales during the month of November.
The Kane County Chronicle reports that sales-tax revenue numbers recorded in February—which measures November sales—dropped to $368,619, about 5.7 percent less than sales in November 2011.
St. Charles saw a .5 percent loss and Geneva an 8 percent gain for the same month, the Chronicle said. Kane County overall was 4.4 percent up.

The November sales taxes don't tell the full story of the holiday shopping season, however. The December numbers—which will be reported later in March—are the highest of the year. Batavia Finance Director Peggy Colby told the Chronicle she's hopeful the December numbers will be strong and make up for anything lost in November.
