Batavia Burger King to Close July 20

The fast-food restaurant has been a fixture in Batavia for 25 years.

Batavia's downtown Burger King, a fixture since 1988, will be closing for good come July 20.

The fast-food establishment at 107 N. Batavia Ave. simply didn't have enough customers to compete with other franchises, like Chick-fil-A and Golden Coral, which opened on Randall Road this year, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Gill Management owns several Burger King restaurants, including the location in Batavia and the one on Randall Road in St. Charles.

Employees at the Batavia restaurant will be offered jobs at other Gill Management properties, a Gill Management representative told the Chronicle.

The Burger King in Batavia had about 450 customers a day—which sounds like a lot unti you compare it to the 1,000-plus customers a day that visit the Burger King in St. Charles.

Batavia's downtown McDonald's, at 125 W. Wilson St., opened with a brand-new building in December 2012.

The Batavia McDonald's includes a double drive-through, which is considered a key component in a fast-food business in which 72 percent of sales come from drive-through traffic.
