Remember Russell Crowe's Visit to Batavia? 'Man of Steel' Movie Arrives June 14

Parts of "Man of Steel" were shot right in our area in October 2011.

Remember Russell Crowe's trip to the Batavia Library back in October 2011? And reports about his enjoyment of the Fox River Trail in St. Charles?

Well, all that happened when Crowe was in the area shooting scenes for a little movie called Man of Steel, which is—at last—ready for its U.S. premiere June 14, 2013.

You can see some very cool trailers on Warner Brothers' Man of Steel website or like the Man of Steel on Facebook.

The story line?

"A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind."

The stars?

In addition to Crowe, who plays Superman's father, Jor-El, you've got a star-studded cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

The Box Office

USA Today says Man of Steel is likely to pass $100 million at the box office its first week and could be the launch for some DC Comics sequels like the Justice League or some Batman/Superman team-ups, modeling after the success of Marvel Comics' Avengers.

It's kind of cool that our area is part of the background scenery. The movie was shot—reportedly—at Fabyan Forest Preserve as well as locations in Plano, Sugar Grove and DeKalb.

Where to See It

Nearby, you can expect 12:01 a.m. showings in 2D and 3D at these theaters, according to the Warner Brothers website:
