No. 6 Most-Read Story of 2013: 3 Charged in Attack on Gay Men, Female Friend

Third in a series: Attack described as a hate crime was the No. 6 most-viewed artcile of 2013.

This article is almost a year old and it didn't originate in Batavia, but it was shocking and involved a potential hate crime, and it drew the attention of Batavians as few other articles did.

The article:

3 Charged in Attack on Gay Men, Female Friend

... was the sixth most-read article on Batavia Patch in 2013.

Three St. Charles residents were charged with crimes ranging from aggravated battery to mob action to hate crime after the attack, which occurred in the 2000 Block of Lincoln Highway early on Jan. 6.

The argument started at the Time Out Sports Pub, at 2051 Lincoln Highway.

After the bar closed, police said the accusers were standing in the parking lot waiting for a cab when they were confronted by one of the patrons. Susan V. Patton, 31, threw a drink into the face of the 26-year-old female accuser, according to police, and the incident took off from there.
