Mutual Ground Domestic Violence Vigil Tonight in North Aurora

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the North Aurora Police Department, 200 S. Lincolnway (Rt. 31).

The community is invited to attend Mutual Ground's 2012 Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil today, Oct. 3, at the North Aurora Police Department.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the North Aurora police station, 200 S. Lincolnway (Rt. 31).

The theme of the night is to shed light on the problem, because domestic violence thrives in darkness and silence. The vigil is being held as an effort to honor the lives of those who have died as a result of domestic violence and celebrate the strength of those who have survived.

“We are so grateful to the North Aurora Police for agreeing to host this year’s Light the Night Vigil," said Michelle Meyer, executive director of Mutual Ground, Inc. "It pleases us to know that North Aurora takes domestic violence seriously and is open to working together to address the issue."

North Aurora Police are glad to work with Mutual Ground to bring attention to domestic violence during this vigil, Police Chief David Summer said.

"Police are often the first responders to these types of incidents," Summer said. "Through a support system of agencies, we are able to help victims of domestic violence."

This is the first event of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is held in October of each year.  For more information, contact Mutual Ground at 630-897-0084, or visit the Mutual Ground website.
