UPDATE: Memorial Day Weekend Events: Tri Cities Edition

Memorials, a parade and a fund-raising run fill the day.

1. BATAVIA VIKING CLUB HERRING BREAKFAST

Where/When: The Batavia Viking Club holds its herring breakfast starting at 7 a.m. May 30 at the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St., Batavia.

2. BATAVIA VFW MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

Where/When: A Memorial Day Ceremony will be conducted at 10 a.m. the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St., Batavia. Those speaking will include Col. Paul Hastings of the 33rd Brigade of the Illinois National Guard.

3. IN LOVE WITH THE (IRISH) DANCE
Where/When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday at , 105 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Why Go: It features world-class dancers and some of Ireland's most gifted traditional musicians.  The sounds of brilliant vocalists, whistles, uillean pipes, accordion, banjo and guitars provide the backdrop.
Pricing: $19, $29, $39.

4. DECIBEL HOGG WITH THE NOUNS
Where/When: 9 p.m. Saturday at , 3341 W. Main St., Saint Charles.
Why Go: The local band headlines the show.
Pricing: No cover.

5. EARLY MORNING MEMORIAL DAY SALUTES
Where/When: 6:10 a.m. Monday beginning at Eastside Cemetery, N. Bennett St. & Woodward Ave., Geneva
Why Go: Beginning at the eastside cemetery on Route 25; proceeding to the bridge on Route 38 for a ceremony to honor those who died at sea; followed by the Kane County Veterans Memorial, off Route 31 and Third Street; and concluding at the memorial at the Geneva Township building in Wheeler Park, off Stevens and Third Streets.
Pricing: Free.

6. MAIN STREET MILE
Where/When: 7:30 p.m. Monday at , 1 E. Main St., St Charles.
Why Go: The Foot Mechanics Memorial Day mile race raises for Salute, Inc. (saluteinc.org), which supports military service members and their families, and Save-A-Vet.org, which rescues military service dogs.
Pricing: $30, $20 for 10 and under.

7. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Where/When: 10 a.m. Monday at Crescent Pl. & S 3rd St., Geneva
Why Go: The route begins near the train depot, proceeds north on Third Street, ending with ceremonies with music in the westside cemetery at Stevens and Third Streets.
