Northern Illinois Food Bank serves hope to hungry neighbors through monthly giving club

Every week, Northern Illinois Food Bank provides much-needed food to more than 60,000 people across 13 Illinois counties.

The need is great, and is especially apparent as we make our way through one of the harshest winters in the region in recent memory. The record-breaking weather issues of the past few months are taking a serious toll on hungry neighbors as rising heat costs test already stretched budgets even further.

Stacie, a hungry neighbor from DuPage County, told the food bank in January the 10 family members living in her household are dressing in extra layers and monitoring the thermostat.

“When you are in this situation, every penny counts,” Stacie said.

Every $1 donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank provides $8 worth of nutritious groceries. While each donation helps in the effort to feed our hungry neighbors, a monthly gift allows the food bank to plan ahead and ensures resources will be available in times of need.

Serving Hope is Northern Illinois Food Bank’s monthly giving club. Here are some of the ways monthly donations ensure that food resources are available year-round:

• $20 per month provides a monthly food box to a senior who is unable to visit a pantry.

• $60 per month provides a food-filled backpack to feed three children every weekend of the school year.

• $100 per month provides $800 worth of groceries each month, enough to feed a family of four.
