January Happenings Include National Chamber and Gubernatorial Candidate Updates and the Group’s Signature Awards Event

Batavia, Ill. – January 3, 2014 – It appears that most of the January events for the Batavia Chamber of Commerce offer a wealth of political information for businesses.

The month begins with a U.S. Chamber of Commerce update. Ben Taylor, the executive director of the U.S. Chamber’s Great Lakes Region, will give an overview of what is happening in Washington, D. C. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.

The multi-chamber event will take place at Prairie Landing Golf Club, 2325 Longest Drive, West Chicago and begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $20 for members of the Batavia, Geneva, or St. Charles Chambers of Commerce. Nonmembers may attend for $30. Online registration for this breakfast event at www.bataviachamber.org/programs is available until Monday, Jan. 6. Alternatively, call the Chamber at (630) 879-7134.

The next day, Friday, Jan. 10, Batavia Chamber of Commerce partners with the Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) to present a Gubernatorial Candidates Meet & Greet. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. and takes place at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus, 2815 Jorie Blvd., Oak Brook, in the Grand Oaks Pavilion Meeting Room.

A buffet lunch is included in the $40 event price. According to the SBAC, each candidate will be given time to speak, followed by an audience question and answer session. The event concludes at 1:00 p.m. For more information, and to register, visit the Small Business Advocacy Council website at smallbusinessadvocacycouncil.org.

The monthly Net-Working-It kicks off a new year at the Wilson Business Center, 1605 W. Wilson St. in Batavia. The event takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 4 – 7 p.m. The business center is home to Batavia Chamber members Performance Clinics, Tom Zarndt’s Edward Jones office, and Dr. Ronald Murphy, DMD. Plan to attend for appetizers, beverages, lots of parking, and great opportunities to network.

The month ends with Inspire 2014, A Celebration of Those Who Inspire Us!, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. The Commons Auditorium at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, is the new location of this annual awards celebration.

The awards presentation of the Citizen(s) of the Year and Ole Award winners will follow a social reception and silent auction. Purchase tickets, at a cost of $35 each, by Monday, Jan. 27. Online purchasing is available at www.bataviachamber.org/programs, or call the Chamber office at (630) 879-7134. The price includes a heavy appetizer menu and cocktail attire is suggested. Also new is an after-event party at Aliano’s Ristorante, 90 N. Island Ave., Batavia.
