Friendship Senior Service Foundation Honors Merri Dee

Merri Dee, renowned news anchor for WGN and community activist, will be honored as Friendship Senior Service Foundation hosts its annual Sterling Friendship Award Dinner on Friday, September 27th. The prestigious honor recognizes an individual who shares their talents, skills, abilities and time with the community.

 

Merri Dee has raised more than $30 million for charities, predominantly in Chicago. She is now the president of the Illinois chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), advocating for senior issues at the local and national level. “We are very pleased to honor this distinguished and accomplished woman who personifies the highest ideas of older adult living and contributes so much to her community,” said Kate Garbarek, manager of Friendship Senior Service Foundation. Previous honorees have included Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson of CBS-TV, former DePaul basketball coach Ray Meyer, Art Linkletter, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson.

The Sterling Friendship Award Dinner is Friendship Senior Service Foundation’s signature annual fundraising event. Proceeds will be used to support benevolence, education and the arts, and capital improvements for Friendship Senior Options and its two retirement communities, Friendship Village in Schaumburg and GreenFields of Geneva.
