Project Mobility is holding a unique crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to provide custom adaptive bicycles for 12 children with disabilities this season.

Project Mobility, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is crowdfunding for the Holiday Campaign for Mobility to raise $39,000 to surprise 12 special needs children with adaptive bicycles.

Project Mobility is holding a unique crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to build custom adaptive bicycles for 12 children with disabilities this season. Adaptive bicycles provide tremendous advantages to children with limited mobility due to physical disabilities. This type of adaptive technology helps special needs children improve strength, range of motion, flexibility, self-esteem, confidence, and the ability to integrate with their peers. Each adaptive bike is custom made for the individual child, ranging in cost from $3,000-$4,000.

“Adaptive bikes bring tremendous joy to the kids and families that receive them. For the past few years we’ve surprised one or two kids around the holidays, but this year we wanted to do something different,” said Hal Honeyman, founder of Project Mobility. “We wanted to have a bigger impact this year and we’re going to do that by raising funds to surprise 12 children this year. It’s a lofty goal, but we’re confident we’ll be able to achieve it with the support of friends, family, and anonymous donations.”

The Holiday Campaign for Mobility is seeking $39,000 worth of donations using the crowdfunding website GoFundMe.com. 100% of donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds will go directly to building and surprising 12 children with adaptive bicycles this holiday season.

“We started Project Mobility as a result of my son Jacob being born with cerebral-palsy. As a biking family we set out on a mission to get all of us back on bikes, together,” said Honeyman. “It was a big challenge initially but so many amazing things have happened and we’ve been able to help to many people and touch so many lives. It has been a really worth while experience.”

Project Mobility was established in 2002 to provide camps, clinics, and adaptive bicycle technology for kids with disabilities. Since their inception in 2002, Project Mobility has helped over 5,000 children.

“Our job is to find a bike that will work for each kid – no matter what they have going on physically. We have hand propelled bikes for children with paraplegia, foot pedal bicycles for others.” said Honeyman. “And once these kids get on bikes they are given a sense of self-dignity and self-mobility. It really changes their lives forever.”

Every donation level has a reward, from $5 to $25 up to $10,000. All donations over $10 will be entered to win a Trek 7.3 FX Bicycle, donated by Trek Bicycle Corporation. $500 donations can nominate a child to receive an adaptive bike. Donations of $3,000 and more can hand-select a child to receive a bike through the Holiday campaign for mobility. Donors of $10,000 or more will receive a 6-day Trek Bicycle Travel trip to California Wine Country (some restrictions apply). Please visit the Holiday Campaign for Mobility GoFundMe page to learn about the specific rewards for each donation level.
