"Investigating Impressionism: The Working Methods of Claude Monet" will be presented at 7 p.m., January 16, at Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

As part of a groundbreaking online publishing initiative, the Art Institute of Chicago’s significant collection of Claude Monet paintings has recently received in-depth technical examination and scientific analysis. Through investigative imaging techniques, X-radiography and infrared reflectography, and state-of-the-art analytical methods, conservators can delve beneath the surface of Monet’s paintings to learn about his materials and working methods, and how his compositions evolved during the painting process.

Kimberley H. Muir, assistant research conservator at the Art Institute of Chicago, talks about the tools used by
conservators and scientists and offers highlights of the most exciting discoveries about Monet’s materials and working methods.

The lecture, part of the Library's New Lyceum Lecture Series and sponsored by the Batavia Public Library Foundation, is free. Registration is required.
