The city of West Chicago seeks a qualified developer to rehabilitate a historic structure within the West Washington Street Redevelopment Project area, for retail, restaurant, office, commercial or cultural uses.
The city has posted a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the former residence, sometimes referred to as the Joel Wiant House, 151 W. Washington St., on its website. Proposals, which are due no later than Monday, March 4, 2013, should be sent to the city of West Chicago, Department of Community Development, 475 Main St., West Chicago, IL 60185.
According to a release issued by the city, rehabilitation and renovation of this property should result in a building that can accommodate viable commercial uses consistent with city zoning regulations, and that fit within the larger redevelopment project while preserving those portions or features that convey its historical, cultural and architectural value and is consistent with city zoning regulations. The building originally was built about 1869, is within the city's historic district and is listed on two statewide historical surveys.
According to Community Development Director John D. Said, West Chicago is flexible in its approach with this location. “We welcome proposals from any qualified individuals or groups dedicated to the adaptive reuse of this building. This is a great opportunity for people to come up with creative concepts to impress the community.”
