Water Street Studios Fuses With Fermilab For Next Art Show, "Energy"

The central theme of energy will reflect in the artwork now being sought for the spring show.

, in conjunction with Fermilab Art Gallery and The Gallery at Allen+Pepa, is proud to announce its next show, Energy.

Submissions to the show are free to all members of Water Street Studios and artists are encouraged to enter each Energy exhibition
. Gallery application forms and images are due Jan. 27, 2012.  

"We have been looking for other galleries to work with and wanted to explore more themed shows," said Jim Kirkhoff, Water Street development director. "The idea of centering it around energy in the City of Energy and working with Allen + Pepa and Fermilab all just fell into place. It is a natural fit!"

With a central theme of energy, each gallery will display artwork that references a particular type of energy with sequential opening receptions:

  • will showcase work inspired by Potential Energy, the energy stored in a body or system due to its position in a force field. Opening artist reception is Fri., April 13. Artwork will be on display from Wed., March 21 through Wed., May 9.
  • Water Street Studios will present work referencing Kinetic Energy, the energy possessed by an object due to its motion. Opening artist reception is Fri., April 20. Artwork will be on display from Fri., April 20 through Sun., May 13. 
  • The Gallery at Allen+Pepa will feature work related to Mechanical Energy, the sum of potential and kinetic energy present in the components of a mechanical system. Opening artist reception is Fri., April 27. Artwork will be on display from Fri., April 20 through Fri., June 1. 

"It will be great to see how artists express (the theme) through their various media," said Steven Lockwood, Water Street Studios gallery director.

Lockwood, who is also a sculptor, said he's working on a few ideas and he's been hearing about the concepts other artists are working on for the show.
