Woman Sent To Hospital After Kirk and Fabyan Crash Thursday, Semi Stuck in Ditch
Three other people were treated at the crash scene. This is the second Kirk-Fabyan crash in less than two weeks. Here's what happened.
One person had to be transported to a hospital Thursday afternoon after a car-vs.-pickup crash near Batavia's northeast side, authorities said.
After the crash occurred, a semi that was trying to drive past the commotion ended up partway in a drainage ditch and further delayed traffic.
A woman was taken to Delnor Hospital after the first crash, which occurred at Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway. The Batavia Fire Department responded to the crash at about 4:46 p.m. Thursday, said Randy Banker, a Batavia Fire battalion chief.
Three other people received treatment at the scene and refused to go to the hospital.
The front of the car collided with the side of the pickup truck, Banker said.
The crashes delayed traffic on both Kirk and Fabyan for about an hour.
"With the traffic at that time of day, it was very congested," Banker said.
The pickup truck and car ended up in the center of the roadway after the crash. A truck driver tried to inch past the crash site in the redirected traffic, but ended up partially off the road instead on the southwest corner of Kirk and Fabyan.
The driver was headed east on Fabyan and turned south onto Kirk.
"The trailer wheels went into the drainage ditch," Banker told Batavia Patch. "The trailer leaned over to the side enough where he couldn’t get out."
A heavy-duty tow truck had to pull the semi out of the ditch. The car and pickup truck from the first crash had to be towed as well. No injuries were reported in the semi incident.
Banker said there were no inclement weather conditions at the time of the crash.
Geneva Police was the main responder to the first crash. Batavia Police provided assistance.
Kirk Road = Crash Central?
Thursday's crash was the fourth incident in the last two months to significantly affect traffic on Kirk Road. The last incident was a five-car afternoon crash at Kirk and Douglas roads on Nov. 28.
Three incidents earlier this year required a significant emergency services response, according to Batavia Patch reports:
- On Nov. 25 (Black Friday), a morning crash at Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway sent three people to the hospital.
- On Oct. 1, a Batavia man died and a Batavia woman was seriously injured after a four-car afternoon crash on Kirk Road north of Wind Energy Pass.
- On March 21, three people were transported for injuries in a three-vehicle afternoon crash at Kirk and Giese roads.
