UPDATE: Teen Driver in Sunday House Crash Is 16, Was 'Disoriented'
The driver, from Elburn, does not recall the crash itself, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said. The crash occurred Sunday afternoon west of Batavia. Here's more info.
The driver of a car that crashed into a home on Sunday does not recall the incident, police said.
The driver, a 16-year-old female from Elburn, struck the rear of a house near Bliss and Seavey roads west of Batavia. The incident happened at about 1:35 p.m. Sunday, said Lt. Pat Gengler, Kane County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
The driver had gotten off I-88 and became disoriented. She was traveling west on Seavey Road and for an unknown reason left the roadway, Gengler said.
She drove about .5 miles through a field and stuck a fence before striking the rear of the house. The vehicle she drove was a 1999 Volkswagen.
Crash Findings
"It appears that driver inexperience played a role in this crash," Gengler said in an e-mail.
There were no signs of drugs or alcohol present in this incident.
The driver was transported to Delnor Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She does not recall the crash itself, Gengler said.
A female inside the home at the time of the crash was not injured, said Randy Banker, a Batavia Fire Department battalion chief.
No tickets have been issued for the incident at this time.
