Shop Batavia on Small Business Saturday 2012

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Do you want to help boost the economy and this community?

Then you should do a little Small Business Saturday shopping.

Today, Nov. 24, is the third annual Small Business Saturday event. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked.

With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy here in Batavia.

There's no shortage of local businesses that you can support today or at some point during the holiday season. Here's a brief rundown of what's in town.

Know a local business we don't have on this list? Please include it in the 'Comments' section below this story. Thanks for reading!

HEY! What about local restaurants? See this list of Batavia restaurant Facebook pages.

Thanx for including the only independent record store within 20 miles of Batavia ... Kiss The Sky ... located within the beautiful friendly confines of downtown Batavia ... not to mention Water Street Art Studios!!!

Close to 60% of all revenue generated by local independent business gets recirculated within the local economy, while less than 25% of the revenue generated by National Chain Stores is recirculated within that same local economy ... and guess how much of that money that is spent with on-line stores such as Amazon is recirculated within your local economy? ... that's right! ... pretty close to nothing!!!

This town needs more stores for shopping and then maybe would recreate more in our downtown, like Aurora, Geneva and St. Charles. Those towns have a mixture. People go out and walk around the shops and stop in a restaurant for a bite to eat. Our town is full of restaurants, not much downtown shopping here. I believe our businesses downtown would do more revenue if we had the mixture as well.
