SHERIFF: Kane County Man Dies in Car Crash
The man's vehicle hit a concrete encasement before it overturned. He was 58.
A 58-year-old Hampshire man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car rollover crash on Thursday in the same town, police said.
Thomas E. Kopitka was driving a 1989 white Ford Mustang that left northbound Walker Road about a half-mile north of Route 72. Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at 8:53 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release.
The Mustang left the roadway on the west side and struck a concrete encasement before overturning and coming to rest in a field. Kopitka was the only person in the vehicle.
No one saw the crash and it is not known why the vehicle left the roadway, the press release said.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
The area of the Walker Road-Route 72 intersection was also the site of a fatal crash last year. On July 16, 2011, a 20-year-old Rockford man died after a two-car collision. For more on this incident, click here.
