The strain of salmonella believed to be linked to a Trader Joe's product was identified in an Illinois case, officials announced Monday.

A salmonella bredeney strain was identified in a McLean County resident in central Illinois, the Kane County Health Department said in a press release. The resident became onset with symptoms in August.

"At this point, it is not known if the (resident) consumed this product," the press release said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 29 cases of salmonella with a specific pattern from 18 states since June of this year. A high percentage of those cases report patients consuming Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter Made With Sea Salt prior to their illness, which might include fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

Trader Joe's voluntarily recalled the brand of peanut butter from all of its stores and online sales. Production and distribution of the item was also suspended while the Food and Drug Administration and the Valencia Peanut Butter supplier continue their investigations, the County Health Department said.

Trader Joe's has a Batavia location at 1942 W. Fabyan Parkway, as well as stores in Naperville and Glen Ellyn.
