Reports: GEA to Drop Unfair Labor Practice Complaint
The GEA "reluctantly" intends to drop its unfair labor practices complaint against School District 304, according to an article in the Kane County Chronicle.
A report in the Kane County Chronicle says the Geneva Education Association intends to drop its unfair labor practices complaint against School District 304.
The article says the GEA is dropping the complaint "reluctantly." GEA President Carol Young said the action was prompted by statements made from an attorney from the Illinois Education Association—the statewide teachers union organization.
The GEA filed the complaint in November, prior to an 11th-hour agreement that averted a potential teachers strike. School Board members said they expected the complaint to be dropped after both sides signed a new three-year contract, but were surprised when the GEA indicated its intent to follow through.
In December, School District 304 filed a counterclaim, saying the GEA was guilty of unfair labor practices for going back on its verbal agreement to withdraw the suit.
The Chronicle article, filed Dec. 7, said the complaint had not been withdrawn as of Monday.
In the article, Young said the relationship between the School Board and the teachers needs mending and teachers have seen "very little indication" of that happening.

School board President Mark Grosso said he could not comment about the unfair labor practice complaint because the issue has not been discussed by the board.
“We have nothing formal,” Grosso said. “We just had email exchanges among attorneys.”
"Grosso said the board would talk about the teachers’ and the district’s unfair labor practice complaints at the next meeting, 7 p.m. Monday at Coultrap, 1113 Peyton St."

Dropping the complaint reluctantly on the advice legal counsel and stating that the relationship between the School Board and teachers needs mending.

I was enraged when I read the Chronicle article. If you haven't read her entire quotation, please do so. What planet is she from? She didn't get her union-bullying way, so she takes one last cry-babying shot at the volunteer Board and her own union attorney. Wah Wah Wah. Do us a favor and try: "I have no comment" the next time someone asks for your opinion.

As long as she is the head of the GEA - I believe the relationship between the teachers and the community will continue to be adversarial.
