Update: Klinkhamer's 'Anti-Campaign' Leads to Primary Victory
Sue Klinkhamer wins the Democrat primary for Kane County Chairman Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.
Sue Klinkhamer, with about a 1,300 vote lead over opponent Bill Sarto, took the Kane County Chairman Democrat primary Tuesday, with all precincts reporting.
Klinkhamer on Tuesday took a cautious position on the results, pointing to a "good margin of victory" in Aurora's results.
The former St. Charles mayor ran an unconventional "anti-campaign" through the primary, refusing to take funding or put forth much of the same efforts candidates generally do in local politics.
Klinkhamer said she was "glad the primary is over" but declined to comment about potentially facing a Republican in November's general election.
“I’m going to kind of regroup for the fall," she said.
Sarto on Tuesday said results "didn't look good." The former Carpentersville village president hadn't spoken with Klinkhamer at all Tuesday night.
"I don’t see any reason to concede a campaign to a candidate who didn’t run a campaign," Sarto quipped Tuesday.
All vote totals remain unofficial.
