Earthquake Preparedness Event Offered

Organizers ask the public to register to participate.

What would you do if an earthquake hit here? The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut will help answer that question when it involves 1 million people in the largest preparedness event in central U.S. history. The event will be a broad-based outreach program organized by the Central United States Earthquake Consortium, cusec.org, and 11 states including Illinois. The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut earthquake drill will be held at 10:15 a.m. April 28.

To participate, go to ShakeOut.org/centralus and pledge your family, school, business or organization’s participation in the drill. Registered participants will receive information on how to plan their drill and how to create a dialogue with others about earthquake preparedness.

Organizers ask participants to register (so they can be counted and receive communications), and at the minimum practice "drop, cover and hold on" at the specified time. It is a five-minute commitment, that is free and open to the public.
