Overview: When former McDonald's executives Tom Dentice and Ed Rensi opened Tom & Eddie's in December 2010, they quickly became a part of the surrounding community. The restaurant serves up signature burgers, chicken, salads, and sides, while supporting local charities and organizations through philanthropic work and donations.
Decor: The decor is casual, but somewhat sophisticated, with dark wood tables and chairs. There is booth seating that wraps around the dining area and an outdoor space to enjoy meals during warmer months. From the fountain drink machine to the ordering process, Tom & Eddie's utilizes the latest technologies in restaurant operations. Once guests have placed an order at the counter they are given an id tag, which is to be plugged into their table for servers to easily locate orders.
The Drinks: One of the most interesting things about Tom & Eddie's is their state-of-the-art soda fountain from Coca-Cola, called Freestyle. The touch screen operation enables guests to design their own drinks from various flavor options. A beer and wine list is also available.
Entrees: Create your own burger ($8.49), hot dog ($5.99), or chicken sandwich ($8.49), by choosing a roll, cheese, condiments, and toppings. A few of the options are multi-grain or ciabatta bread, smoked Gouda cheese, and a delicious roasted garlic aioli. For a gourmet experience in burger dining, the Signature Burger menu consists of options like the Bushel and a Peck Burger ($9.99); topped with Granny Smith apple slices, homemade walnut butter, and warm melted brie cheese, it is truly a unique flavor explosion. The Chicken Capri Sandwich ($9.29) consists of fire roasted tomatoes, basil pesto, and fresh mozzarella; all atop a grilled chicken breast on a ciabatta roll. On the hot dog front, the Windy City Jamaican ($5.99) is an all natural hot dog on a poppy seed roll with red onions, fresh tomatoes, Jamaican relish, sour pickles, and sport peppers. Tom & Eddie's also has delicious meatless options with an Ahi-Tuna Burger ($9.99), and the Yin and Yang Burger ($8.49), which is a homemade specialty using edamame beans formed into a patty, then topped with eggplant spread and crumbled goat cheese.
Sides: All burgers and sandwiches are served with a choice of one side; additional side orders are available for $2.29. Sides include: french fries, sweet potato fries, haystack onions (fried onion straws), soup, or a side salad.
Desserts: Freshly baked cookies ($1.89) are 100 percent natural and come in a variety of options. Chewy Chocolate Chip, Harvest Berry, and Coconut Macadamia Chocolate Chip, are just a few of the sweets complementing the end of your meal.
Service: The staff is friendly always willing to help suggest menu items or give advice on customizing your own perfect sandwich. The table turnover is relatively quick, so there is rarely a long wait to be seated.
