Batavia's Newest Restaurant Revealed

Gammon Coach House, named after its location, could open by mid-July.

Another new restaurant in downtown Batavia will likely open this summer.

Gammon Coach House will set up shop at 3 S. Batavia Ave., the address held by Ona's On The Avenue. On Monday the city's Government Services Committee recommended approval of a liquor license for Gammon Coach House.

The restaurant is a twist on the old neighborhood café. It will be a more modern but cozy atmosphere, including dishes made with high-quality ingredients, said Jon With, owner of the new café. Mr. With hopes to open the Gammon Coach House by mid-July.

On tap the restaurant will feature local craft beers each month, such as Two Brothers (of Warrenville/Aurora) and Half Acre of Chicago.

The café will seat about 50 people with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar. The restaurant's rustic appearance indoors will stay intact with wooden ceilings, walls and flooring, Mr. With said. Customers will still be able to see the old trap door where farmers dropped down hay from the stables, he added.

To draw in business, the restaurant plans to have beer and wine dinners.

Mr. With also wants to hold fundraisers for organizations such as United Way or the Batavia Historical Society. He hopes to team up with a fellow downtown business, , to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“We think we need to give back to the community if we want to be part of the community,” With said.

Before the committee approved their Class D liquor license, the restaurant went through a thorough background check done by the .
